After all that excitement and travelling I headed back to my 'home' base in Sanur for a few days to get my clothes washed and catch up on some other bits and pieces before heading out to Gili Trewangen to look for Sea Turtles and take a look at the artificial reef project set-up by the Villa Ombak Diving Academy. This small party isle seems to have calmed down a little in recent years, there still aren't any police, but the 'self governance' seems to be working, and you don't have magic mushrooms on the bar menus anymore! The reefs here are not good, but just as in Rangiroa, French Polynesia, the dead coral is an ideal habitat for sponges to grow in, leading to an abundance of turtles. The Artificial Reef Project is helping the coral to grow faster and stronger hopefully meaning that the coral will be able to withstand future El Nino years. Upon my return to civilisation (Sanur) and fresh water showers (yay!) I headed over to Nusa Lembongan for the day to take some pictures of a boat for a friend. Fortunately I didnt have to go diving here as the water is freezing! We were not in the season for Mola Mola, but they do have a seriously cool golf/driving range on the side of the bay. The goal is to land your ball into a boat specified by the resident 'pro' . There were a couple of drunk surfers giving it a go (badly) and as DIVERS are way cooler than SURFERS we (myself and the manager of a Diveshop) decided to see if we could manage it. 15 balls later I had a t-shirt (appalling quality and crappy logo!) but that wasn't the point, I got the ball into the boat and didn't kill anyone with a stray shot!
