Another famous divesite in the Area is the USAT Liberty in Tulamben Bay. I dove this site a few times and found lots of cool critters and saw some nice wide angle opportunities for future dives.

The USAT Liberty is a 120 meter long shipwreck of a US World War II freighter that was torpedoed by a Japanese Submarine in 1942 while in transit to the Philippines from Australia.

Two accompanying destroyers tried to tow the stricken vessel to the nearby Harbour Town of Singraja, but as the damage was too severe they had to beach the Liberty in Tulamben to avoid the loss of the vessel and its cargo.  The Liberty lay on the shores of tulamben for 21 years until nearby Mt Agung erupted, pushing the wreck back into the ocean where she now rests in about 30m of water with the shallowest sections of the wreck in snorkellable depths.

During the next week I went on a 'tour' of Bali with some of the Bali Hai staff to see the best diving that this location has to offer.  We did a few more dives at Tulamben whilst waiting for another Diver to join us, Jamie, who was arriving in Bali after spending 2 years living on South Georgia (not Antarctica, but close enough) performing fisheries research and being generally cold!
